Castor Oil Packs for Your Liver

  • Dec 29, 2017

If you’re looking for an easy way to support the health of your skin, liver and lymphatic system, consider trying a castor oil pack. The thick, pale yellow oil, extracted from the seed of the castor bean plant, is native to India and has been used in topical medicinal applications around the world, including Egypt, Japan, China, and India. Today, castor oil is still used by holistic physicians, as well as in commercial products such as cosmetics, soaps, textiles, and massage oils.

Castor Oil’s Healing Abilities

Castor contains a high concentration of unsaturated fatty acids, especially ricinoleic acid. It works by way of absorption through the skin and into lymphatic circulation where it stimulates flow of lymph fluid and helps draw out waste products from the cells of the body. This enhances the body’s natural detoxification process, while supporting immune system function.Liver disease is a problem for many Americans because of diet choices and the toxins we are exposed to daily. Also, ingesting castor oil can cause serious health issues including severe diarrhea.

How to use Castor Oil

Always use castor oil topically. A pack is an excellent approach and there are many ways to prepare one. Some methods are more suitable than others for particular needs. For example, for some health conditions, the pack is used with heat; for others, without heat. Castor oil packs are not recommended for women who are pregnant and should not be used by anyone who has recently undergone surgery.

Castor Oil Pack Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • Castor oil
  • Flannel or cotton pad (washcloth, hand towel, etc…shouldn’t be larger than 12″x12″)
  • Parchment paper
  • Old towel
  • Heating pad or hot water bottle

Directions:

  1. Lightly apply castor oil to the flannel or cotton. You do not want it to be dripping (as it causes a huge mess) but you want it to be full of oil.
  2. Apply to the skin over your liver: (under your right breast down to a bit below your ribs).
  3. Wrap the parchment paper around yourself a couple of times to hold the flannel or cotton pad to your body.
  4. Optional: you can apply a heating pad or hot water bottle to stimulate the process.
  5. Wrap yourself in the old towel to keep the castor oil from getting everywhere.
  6. Drink nice clean water with electrolytes. We recommend these: (click here for berry. or lemon-lime)
  7. Breathe, relax, and pay attention to your body and how you feel. Do not multi-task! If the castor oil irritates your skin, stop immediately and shower with mild soap in warm, not hot, water.
  8. Enjoy the benefits of detoxification with your castor oil pack!
